I never intended to drop the oilpan... Until I made a mistake. While the oil return tube from the head to the side of the block was off, I was messing around with installing the alternator. The 14mm nut on the back of the alternator bracket happens to be situated directly above the return ine, and I dropped it. There's nothing quite like the sound of a nut that's just hit the bottom of an oil pan. Nothing.
